A Workshop Built on Principles
Oak and Hearth was founded in 2008 by master craftsman William Hartley. After twenty years working in commercial furniture production, William grew disillusioned with the industry's shift toward disposable design and cost-cutting at the expense of quality.
He returned to his roots in the Cotswolds and opened a small workshop dedicated to a simple idea: furniture should be built to last lifetimes, not seasons. What began as a one-man operation now employs eight skilled craftspeople, each trained in traditional joinery techniques.
Our workshop sits in a converted Victorian mill in Burford. The stone building provides the consistent temperature and humidity that solid wood demands. Every piece we create passes through these doors, touched by hands rather than assembly lines.
